The 2002 GTA: Vice City Prototype Leak

What the prototype showed

Time Extension reported that the pre-release build contained a working debug menu, early vehicle and character assets, presentation changes and a different version of the opening theme. Although the build was created close to launch, the documented differences made it valuable to researchers studying the final stages of Vice City’s development.

The publication also recorded the uploader’s statement that the build originated with a person they called johndoe2. That attribution belongs to the public post; it does not establish anyone’s civil identity, employment or location.

Hidden Palace catalogs the item as an October 1, 2002 prototype and credits IAmNotToniCipriani as the releaser. Preservation databases and press reports therefore converge on the exact handle even where they describe the date slightly differently.

A brief burst of public activity

The Vice City post arrived one day after a Liberty City Stories prototype release associated with the same handle and shortly before reporting on a partial San Andreas source collection. Together, the posts formed a distinctive public record spanning multiple titles in the 3D-era GTA series.

The handle became easy to recognize, then it disappeared. This page exists because I am trying to contact the person behind it.
